How do you decide which businesses to support? Do you pay attention to their values and real-world actions? As consumers, many of us try to support companies that are committed to transparency and actively contribute to the greater good of our world's problems. And we have some help: The B Corp™ movement refined the blueprint of business success to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. So what is a “B Corp”?

New Leaf Paper is a founding B Corp member, which means we have a mission statement that supports our business actions, and we are committed to our sustainability goals as much as we are committed to our business goals--in fact, those goals are intertwined: We are committed to being the leading national source for environmentally responsible, economically sound paper. We first achieved our B Corp certification in 2007 and have gone through the rigorous recertification process every three years. New Leaf Paper is continuously adapting to meet and address profound challenges--climate change, extreme social injustices, and a global pandemic. More than ever, social and environmental performance has to be evaluated alongside a brand's bottom line.

B Corp certification is dependent on three validations: verified performance, legal accountability, and public transparency. Through an in-depth, rigorous audit process, a company is assessed by employees, customers, community, and environment. A wide variety of questions include detailing your supply chain, input materials, charitable giving, and employee benefits are evaluated.

As stated in the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence, we must be the change we seek in the world. We must make sure that business transactions are conducted as if people and place mattered and that, through products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all. To do so requires acknowledging that we are dependent upon one another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.

Transparency ratings for B Corps are posted on bcorporation.net There are over 3,608 Certified B Corporations from more than 150 industries and 71 countries. B Corps are leaders of a global movement of people using business as a force for good with one unifying goal--to redefine business success.
