The New Leaf Team Gets Together

The New Leaf Paper team celebrated Earth Day by getting together for a company-wide meeting at the Gettysburg Heritage Center, a nonprofit we are proud to partner with. This organization is comprised of a team of museum and business experts focused on the mission of education and preservation of both habitat and heritage in historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was a wonderful opportunity to be together and share an experience that was impactful as well as productive.

Our trip included an evening at the Gettysburg Heritage Center where we were treated to a viewing of the documentary “Clear Day Thunder – Rescuing the American Chestnut”, a film funded by The American Chestnut Foundation, that tells the story of passionate citizen scientists and researchers working to restore this ecologically and economically important species.

We also enjoyed breakfast at the Gettysburg Academy - an historic building that has served as a school, a seminary, and Gettysburg College before it was converted into the bed and breakfast it is today. You can still see a shell embedded in the building’s exterior left from the Gettysburg battle!

We went on a 3 hour tour of the Gettysburg battlefield with licensed battlefield guide Larry Korczyk, which was fascinating and very educational. We spent our afternoon in a working session at the Nature Alliance Barn, a facility developed to provide habitat and heritage education opportunities for schools and local groups.

On our final evening we enjoyed dinner at the Dobbin House. Established in 1776, it is the oldest building in Gettysburg and has served as a family home, a classical school, a field hospital during the battle of Gettysburg, and the first stop on the underground railroad. Today it operates as an authentic colonial restaurant and tavern.
